Shopping Your Home
It’s the year of less, with less buying and consuming. This month we will focus on something most people don’t think about, shopping in your home!!!
I have been following my own rules for buying less, and what to do when I do get the itch to shop out of boredom. I have been able to repurpose several items and create just what I want, so that energizes me to continue. Have I not shopped at all? No. Have I shopped a lot less? YES!!

Decluttering and Organizing:
We don’t often think about what we already own!
Take a good look around. You probably have organizing supplies, extra household stock, things that would fill a need. Look around and see what you can use instead of buy.
Reassign items to a new location. I have been doing a lot of this. The switcheroo helps. Over time, our systems need updating, changing and our needs change too.
Make a “use this next” list. I seem to have collected a small stockpile of cleaning supplies, and I have been gathering them up in ONE location so I can see what I have and use it up.
When a need arises, I check all my spaces to see if I have a container/thing/piece that will fill my need. So far, I’d say I have about a 70% success rate. It’s a great feeling to use something I already own.
Home Edits:
I have found that a good rearrange or quick declutter session often squelches my urge to go shopping. Dopamine is dopamine, take it where you can get it.
Have a swap with friends. Get together and bring all your odd décor you have grown tired of. Art, accessories, clocks, plants, and more. Everyone leaves with new pieces and no money is spent!
Short Term Rentals:
Have seasonal amenities that rotate and offer guests a new point of view at different times of the year.
Swap out accessories and décor seasonally for a fresh new look. Throw blankets and pillows, small décor items, maybe even add or delete so books or games from your collection.
